1001 Arabian Nights Auditions

Cafe Clock is happy to report Zanouba and Adil made the cut during the recent auditions for 1001 Arabian Nights in Rabat. Next stop: Casablanca where they are joining 40 other hopeful actors from around Morocco.

Zanouba and Adil rose to the occasion under the direction of Tim Supple as they warmed up in a series of exercises designed to put the actors at ease and get them in character. I myself participated in the warm-ups and had a great time pretending to be an actor.

Should all go well for  Zanouba and Adil, they will be asked to Egypt where final auditions will be held. After that, rehearsals begin in earnest.

Cafe Clock can’t imagine anything more gratifying than seeing two of Fes’ own get a shot at the ‘big time’. We wish nothing but the best for these two budding stars.

Better get your autographs next time you see Zanouba or Adil as there is every indication these two are on their way to the fame and fortune.

1001 Arabian Nights

This weekend, two of the talented singers who performed for British Director, Tim Supple at Cafe Clock will travel to Rabat to audition for the musical production, 1001 Arabian Nights. How thrilling! Fes’ very own Zanouba and Adil have been invited to join a hand-picked group of musicians, singers, actors and specialty performers to vie for a coveted spot in the upcoming show.

It was a combination of their awesome vocal skills and innate stage presence that landed them the invitation. Singing in the comforting and supportive environment of Cafe Clock was the first important step in their journey to potential stardom. Cafe Clock owner Mike Richardson will accompany them to the audition where they will join dozens of other hopeful and talented Moroccans vying for a place in the production.

Good luck Zanouba and Adil!!!

Last night, British Theater producer, Tim Supple was here to have a look-see at the talents of local singers and musicians. Among the performers Café Clock arranged for him to hear were Jaliliyat, Essaouwa, Zanouba, The Fes Jdid Boys, Annas Habib and so many more – including several talented staff members of The Clock.

Tim is traveling throughout Morocco and the Middle East searching for actors, musicians and the like for an upcoming Canadian theater production of 1001 Arabian Nights. Will some of them come from Fes? It’s possible!

The Clock was rockin’ as one by one the performers provided a sampling of their musical talents. Tim was clearly enjoying himself as was the encouraging crowd that sang and danced along to the tunes of their hometown friends.

Tim, who has never been to Fes before, said he knew he liked the place within 2 minutes of his arrival. He dropped off his luggage at the riad where was booked and headed straight for the café.

“This place is really special,” Tim said about Café Clock. Having just come from Tanger, where no such venue was available for gathering local musicians, Tim was clearly enjoying his research in Fes.

Bet he’s sorry he’s only in town for 1 night.

I’m sure he’ll be back. After all, callbacks have to be arranged, don’t they?
